Winter Fun in Metro Detroit

Ben Lang Properties staffers know…there is a bunch of fun things to do in Metro Detroit, especially now that we are finally getting some colder temps and snow.

So bundle up, grab a hot cocoa or coffee and hit the road to these local favorite winter activities and festivals for some winter fun in Metro Detroit.

If excessive speeds, danger, and steep slopes are your cup of tea, you must make the 40-minute trip from Detroit to Waterford to experience The Fridge Toboggan Run. Definitely not for the weak of heart! After riders’ toboggans are pushed off the peak of the hill, sledders will encounter a 55-foot drop, then rocket through a 1,000-foot run at speeds in excess of 30mph.

Sound like fun?

For the little ones be sure to bundle up and mosey on down to area slopes that are more kiddie-centric. Slopes like Beverly Hills Village Park, Civic Center Park, or Shiawassee Park are great options for you.

Since our state has renowned ski resorts like Shanty Creek and Crystal Mountain, there’s got to be a lot of purists who stray from hitting the slopes anywhere south of Grayling.

If you’re looking to avoid the cost of journeying “Up North” or simply can’t bear to leave the Rochester Hills area make sure to check out White Lakes Alpine Valley. With 25 slopes and an elevation of 1,210 feet, it’s a little slice of heaven for skiers and snowboarders in southeast Michigan.

Cross country more your style?

Just head just 30-minutes north of Detroit MI to Lake Orion’s Bald Mountain Recreation Area. With some of the steepest hills and most rugged terrain in the area, park goers can trek through more than eight miles of manicured cross country skiing trails. It’s also a snowmobiler’s dream!
